Bike to Work Day

Bike to Work Day

The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) is responsible for the planning and execution of one of the largest Bike to Work Day events in the country. In 2018, community organizations applied to be one of the 100 official pit stops. Each chosen pit stop received a supply of items from our sponsors to give to pit stop visitors on their bikes. Those items included the official t-shirt and items from sponsors RX Bar, Suja Juice, Chipotle and GoGoSqueeze.

Spreading the Word

To help people prepare for biking to work on the big day, SANDAG offers free bike education classes and tune-ups for area employers.  In addition, employers in the region can schedule a guided group ride so their employees can learn the safest routes to travel on their new commute to work.  We ask our 200+ employer partners that represent more than 330,000 people  to promote Bike to Work Day to their employees.  We also held a news conference a week before the event and use social media as well as billboards, radio and television to help spread the word.

T-Shirts

The free T-shirts given out on Bike to Work Day are a big draw and have become an annual collector's item.  For the first time,  in 2018 we gave the community a chance to choose which design they wanted on the official shirt.  People could vote for one of two designs on Facebook and Twitter.  Survey results after the event indicated that people really appreciated the chance to be part of the process.
